Map Drawing Series

This series gives you an behind the scenes look at not only how I do the loose, architectural style battle map sketches for the Classic_DM Show, but a look inside the thought process of spatial level design when applied to the classic Advanced Dungeons & Dragons modules, known for limited detail and vague room descriptions.

These videos cover how to take a blank, empty 1 square = 10’-0” scale map from 1st Edition and bring it alive as a full blow battle map. Battle maps use 1” = 5’-0” which is preferred for the use of 28mm miniatures. Using only a 18” x 24” board, a roll of 18” canary yellow Bienfang bumwad,, and three line weights via Sharpies, we sketch out details that have a huge effect on the combat and playable space of each room.

Let's Draw Maps for the next episode! We lay out rooms 5 and 6 from the lower caverns of the Glacial Rift of the Frost Giant Jarl, going over process, line weight, shadows, light sources, furniture, natural rock formations, water sources, and topography to bring even the most basic of rooms alive in this classic adventure.
Let's Draw Maps for the next episode! We lay out room 10 from the lower caverns of the Glacial Rift of the Frost Giant Jarl, going over layout, line weight, shadows, wood grains, stippling, light sources, furniture, natural rock formations, and topography to bring this 3 sent3ence room alive in this classic adventure.
We crank out a fast quadrant of the throne room 11,12, and 13 of lower caverns. Due to the huge size of this room, we'll do it in sections, but make sure each battlemap lines up! Shout out to Sword Coast Soundscapes! Love their D&D themed background tracks.

Let's do a quick and dirty jungle rocky coastline, inspired by a small section of the ruins of Tulum and the Hidden Shrine of Tamoachan. Module C2. Tulum is the site of a pre-Columbian Mayan walled city situated on 40-foot tall cliffs along the east coast of the Yucatán Peninsula on the Caribbean Sea Patreon Page The HUB for everything!
